Praying in tongues exists in Pagan worship
( Pagan Tongues: Islamic sect, Mormons, Hindus, Zulu in Africa, Satanists and people praying to other humans )
Note: Many evangelicals consider Biblical tongues a rare event today in light of the Scriptures and verifiability. All of us believe that God can always perform real genuine miracles like He did before, even with tongues of fire and sound effects like a great wind. Perhaps because the books of the New Testament were unavailable to most in the First Century and though existent still unavailable to many in the beginning of the Second century, the gift served a purpose not needed today. There are however millions of Pentecostal and "Charismatic" brothers and sisters in the Lord who do claim to have this gift. For this reason we who do not speak in tongues wish to accept them and to work with them, only asking that they do the same for us and that we follow the Biblical guidelines for using tongues.
